HOW TO REACH UNIVERSIDAD DE CANTABRIA?

Santander can be reached by different ways of transportation: car, train, plane or bus. However, from the organizing committee of YRInM, we encourage you to come by public transport, preferably train or bus in order to minimize the carbon footprint resulting from your participation in the conference. 

The University of Cantabria is located 30 minutes by walk from the city center (town hall). If you want to take an interurban bus, you have to take into account that interurban buses from Santander City are not included in Google Maps, that is why we offer you the most suitable itinerary to reach the University from the main sites.

Bus information

The University of Cantabria is readily accessible via the Santander Interurban bus network (TUS). Bus routes are numbered and clearly labelled with their respective origin and destination. To reach the university from the city centre, four main bus lines are available: 

  • Linea 3: OJAIZ – RECTORADO
    • Departures (OJAIZ): from 7:16 to 9:15, 12:14 to 15:22 and 18:22 to 20:28 every 20 minutes.
    • Departures (RECTORADO): from 8:15 to 9: 55, 12:54 to 16:03 and 19:02 to 21:10, every 17 minutes.
  • Linea 4: BARRIO PESQUERO – RECTORADO
    • Departures (BARRIO PESQUERO): from 7:25 to 8:47, 12:47 to 15:19 and 19:04 to 19:33 every 17 minutes.
    • Departures (RECTORADO): from 7:55 to 9: 17, 13:17 to 15:49 and 19:34 to 20:03, every 17 minutes.
  • Linea 7C1: LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI – LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI
    • Departures (LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI): from 7:20 to 22:24 every 18 minutes.
  • Linea 7C2: LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI – LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI
    • Departures (LUIS QUINTANILLA ISASI): from 8:47 to 22:21 every 18 minutes.

The cost of the ticket is 1.30€. It can be purchased on the bus itself and should be kept for the entire ride. For real-time updates on all Santander interurban transport (TUS), we recommend downloading the TUSantander app. This will provide information on arrival times and bus stops.

From the Airport

There is a bus, which is the most economical option. The ticket costs €2.5 and it is purchased on the bus itself, dispensed by the driver. You will find the stop on your right when you exit through any door of the building.

The airport bus schedule: It starts at 6:40 in the morning and maintains its service until 11:00 p.m. With departures every half hour and with a duration of about 15 minutes each way. It will take you at the bus station, which is located in the centre very close to the city hall.

Upon arrival at the bus station, it will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the University by walk. We advise that you follow the route following the funicular Rio de la Pila. Alternatively, you can also take the Santander Urban Transport (TUS) from the city center to the University of Cantabria. In addition, a taxi rank is accessible outside the bus stations during their opening hours, providing convenient transportation to the University of Cantabria.

From the train and bus station

Arriving in train to Santander is very comfortable; moreover, the train and bus station are located very close to each other and 10 minutes by walk from the city centre and 30 minutes by walk from the University of Cantabria. Moreover, a taxi rank is accessible outside the aforementioned stations during their respective opening hours, providing convenient transportation to the University of Cantabria. You can also take the Santander urban Transport (TUS) from the city centre to the University of Cantabria. 

From Bilbao airport

Bilbao Airport is the main airport of northern Spain, offering many national and international connections. In many cases, landing in Bilbao is the fastest way of reaching the north of Spain. In case of landing at Bilbao airport, the journey to Santander will take you around 2h and 15 minutes by public transport. The bus from Bilbao Airport to the city center and main bus station (Bilbao Intermodal), departs from the airport every 15 minutes and costs €3, it can be purchased when getting on the bus. The bus stop is located at the right handside when you exit through any door of the airport building and the journey takes 25 minutes to reach Bilbao Intermodal bus station. Once arrive there, the bus to Santander from ALSA takes 1h and 40 minutes to reach the Cantabrian capital.
